Take a break from dog agility trials at Champions Center to enjoy a fun and tasty outing at Young’s Jersey Dairy, where they offer food, fun and even dog-friendly seating at outdoor picnic tables. Just under 20 minutes away at 6880 Springfield Xenia Rd in Yellow Springs, OH, it’s definitely worth the drive!

Ice cream flavors and varieties galore

Ice cream flavors menu at Young's Jersey Dairy, Yellow Springs OHEver heard of Red Peppermint Chip ice cream, Cappuccino Latte gelato, or Pomegranate sorbetto? They’ve got ’em at Young’s Jersey Dairy, and a lot more. And they’re all homemade right on the farm. From starting with the right mixture of ingredients to their quick freeze and storage processes, they know the tricks to make the very best ice cream.

Did I try it? You bet! Since peanut butter-flavoredouble buckeye sundae at Young's Jersey Dairy, Yellow Springs OHd ice cream is one of my favorites and they had two varieties in the Double Buckeye Sundae – Chocolate P-Nut Butter and P-Nut Butter Cup – it was clear that I had to opt for that one. It wasn’t the wisest choice calorie-wise though, especially when they have gelato with about 1/2 the calories, and sorbetto with roughly 1/3 the calories and zero grams of fat!

Fast and easy take-out

The dairy store is sectioned into three basic stores: the store itself, which includes homemade cheese curds, gifts, souvenirs, and more; the ice cream counter, and a take-out restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating.

The top seller at the fast food area seemed to be the fried cheese curds. Unfortunately I couldn’t try them because they contained gluten, but everyone else there seemed to be enjoying them. Instead I opted for a chicken salad, which was excellent. All of the ingredients were very fresh, and the chicken itself was tender and lightly seasoned.  Other items on the menu were  burgers, a variety of sandwiches, and breakfast – served anytime of day.

It was a very hot day so I sat inside, even though there was seating outside where one could bring their dog(s). Around me there was everything “cow.” Cow statues for kids to climb on, and even a cow TV.

A family fun spot since 1869

Relatives of the Young family founded the farm in 1869, building the red barn that is still being used today. Since that time, things have grown from a small dairy to a destination for family fun! The dairy store is now only a small part of what there is to do at Young’s Jersey Dairy, only partially noted here:

  • The Golden Jersey Inn, a sit-down restaurant which serves home cooked country style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Udders & Putters, two miniature golf courses
  • Batting cages with hardball and softball machines
  • Moovers & Shakers, a barrel-train ride around the farm
  • Fast Slide, a tall and humpy three-lane slide with burlap bags for speed
  • Cowvin’s Kiddie Coral, with a corn pit and slide, Tyke’s tractors, a straw pit, and bale climbing
  • Wool gathering, one of the largest celebrations of natural fibers in the country held in mid September. Local farmers and up to 100 vendors from over 14 states put on a great show.
  • And yes, even more

Needless to say, if you have non-fur kids with you, you could spend the whole day here! So get the moooove on, and come visit this extraordinary place while you’re in the area.
