McGough Arena was built in 1983. Renting the arena includes use of two offices. These were used for hospitality when I visited.

Adjacent to the arena is a covered, non-heated ring, and yet another outside area that can be used for a ring. These additional rings are used when obedience, rally, and/or conformation are held along with agility.

Crating & Potty Area

Crating was especially nice because every space seemed to have a direct view of the agility rings. Some space was on the top floor, while some spaces were on second tiers (like box seats). Access to the rings was only from one side, so anyone crated on the opposite side had a very long walk, especially if one was first dog in a class and had to run and get their dog in 5 minutes. The sides of the crating area were swept every night, so it kept the dog hair to a minimum.

There are large grassy areas in the front and on one side of the building with regularly emptied cans. There were waste bags available for the one-day Golden National Specialty, but none for the North Carolina Dog Fanciers trial. There were many spots of non-picked up potty as a result.

Overall Cleanliness: Very good

Air Conditioning: No

Heat: Unknown

Restrooms: Good. There were two sets of both men’s and women’s, parallel to each other on the top floor of the arena. Plenty of sinks and commodes every time I visited. Clean.

Kitchen/club provided food: Free to volunteers – mostly snacks rather than a meal.

Food Vendors: There were several food vendors on site.

Room for Dogs to Run: Several outdoor horse arenas provided ample room for dogs to run, although control is required since dogs could slip through the fences.

Standard trial schedule: 3 to 4 trials per year are hosted here by the Blue Ridge Agility Club
