More dog friendly lodging near Pekin IL
A stone’s throw from a dog agility trials held at Avanti’s Dome in Pekin IL is economical lodging for handlers and their dogs: EconoLodge.
I didn’t stay there during the latest trial as I had my own RV, but did stay Sunday night following the trial. Since the hotel was booked full during the trial but not on Sunday, your experience may have been different if you stayed during that busy time, and I encourage you to comment on your stay!
Speedy check-in
Check-in was effortless and quick, as front desk clerk Phanindra took my information and assigned me a room on the first floor. It was towards the end of the hall near the back entrance, very convenient for my dogs to potty in the rather large grass area.
There was an empty planter at the back door that was used for poop bag disposal, as well as a trash bin, and a trash container in front. There were no empty bags, so be prepared and bring your own.
The room had a slight musty order, but wasn’t bad. More importantly, it was very clean. I always bring my own bedspread to replace a hotel’s spread when the dogs are with me. They sleep on the bed, and I’d rather help keep rates low for everyone by not adding an extra hair cleaning step for the staff.
Air conditioning and shower get 5 paws
It was 94 degrees and humid the afternoon I arrived. More than anything I wanted good air conditioning. The EconoLodge did not let me down, as the dogs and I relaxed in cool comfort. The next thing I wanted was a strong, hot shower. Got that too, earning them a five paw rating for those amenities!
The room had a TV with numerous cable channels (satellite), microwave, refrigerator, hair dryer, iron, shampoo, cream rinse, and lotion … but no coffee pot. Coffee was available in the lobby any time one wanted though, although it might take a few minutes to brew a new pot.
The indoor pool was out-of-order when I was there. Not something I use, but if kids were guests it would be a disappointment. There was a washer that cost $1.50 a load, as well as a dryer. Also I saw one luggage carrier in front, an ice machine, and vending machines for soda and snacks.
Newly remodeled entrance and breakfast area
According to Phanindra, the hotel is under newer ownership and as a result, recently underwent some renovations in the entrance, breakfast area, and ten rooms on the main floor. Plans are to continue to update the hotel moving forward.
Breakfast was continental, but they had a waffle iron to make your. Tables, TV, and newspapers were all available to enjoy with breakfast.
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for dog agility folks and give it 4 1/2 paws in comparison to many I’ve stayed at while trialing. Best to make reservations early if you plan to stay though, as it usually fills on trial weekends!
