More details on parks, trails and off leash areas in Pekin IL
There are dog parks, and then there are better dog parks. Happy Tails Dog Park at 1701 Court St. in Pekin IL, a few miles from a recent dog agility trial at Avanti’s Dome, is one of the better ones. It is spacious, grassy, has fresh water stations throughout, and contains several growing shade trees in both the small and large dog areas. My dogs loved running in this park, despite the very hot day.
Parking was across the street up a small hill, but convenient. Happy Tails is part of Mineral Springs Park, owned by the the Pekin Park District. The park includes a swimming pool, fresh water pond with paddleboats and canoes, skate park, bike trail, and facilities for numerous sports, enough to satisfy almost anyone’s interests.
The GPS took me to one of the administration buildings inside the park. I kept driving around and finally found the dog park. It was actually just off Court St., but I took the first road I saw into the park, and the dog park was on the second road.
Overall it was a fun, but hot, adventure for the dogs and I. If you’re on the road near Pekin and have larger dogs that like to socialize and run, Happy Tails Dog Park is a nice option to give your dogs the exercise they need.
